Crip Notes

• Primarily African American gang
• Founded in 1969 Los Angeles, California by 15 year old Raymond Washington and Stanley Tookie Williams III
• Connected network (sets)gang
• One of the most powerful gangs in America (30000 gang members)
• Wanted leaders accused of conspiracy of murder, drug trafficking, and robberies
• Biggest rival is the notorious Bloods
• Locked in a drug struggle with Vice Kings in Memphis, Tennessee
• Originally called the Baby Avenues to emulate older gangs and the Black Panthers
• Called the Crips because of a spelling mistake, or that some gang members were crippled
• Stanley Williams acknowledged Crips as “Community Revolution In Progress”
• Stanley then started his own gang called the Westside Crips
• At one point they outnumbered non-Crip gangs 3:1
• As Crip sets formed their own gangs the gangs population decreased causing evening more violence
• Crip on Crip violence had raised but stability had stayed in the gang’s higher hierarchy
• Crips wear blue bandanas and British Knights sports shoes
• BK from British Knights means “Blood Killa”
• The bloods have they own abbreviation which is “CK” or “Crip Killa”
• Initiation for men is to commit a crime such as killing a blood or a neutral (non gang member)
• Initiation for women is either to get Sex’d in (sex with several older gang members) or commit a crime

Bloods Notes

· Initiation for women is either to get Sex’d in (sex with several older gang members) or get beat up for exactly 31 seconds
· For men initiation is to get beat up for 31 seconds or receive ritual initiation which is a full force blow to the forehead
· It is said for whoever flashes their headlights at they car first they kill the victim driver.
· Formed when Piru Street Crips got in a conflict with other sets; they started their own gang and noticed they were hugely out numbered
· They formed an alliance with non-Crip gangs seeking revenge
· MOB is a common acronym used by Bloods either meaning Member of Blood
· Refer to others as DOGS (Dawg) because they brand themselves with dog paws
· The United Blood Nation was created in the east coast to eliminate the Latin Kings from taking over, as well with other gangs
· They did receive attention as corruption ran through the sets
· Wear red to identify themselves
